Major Upgrade of the Day: Facebook has just updated its relationship status drop-box to include two long-overdue options: “In a civil union” and “in a domestic partnership.”
The move to improve the company’s inclusiveness of the LGBT community was approved following consultation with Facebook’s Network of Support — a confederation of LGBT organizations such as he Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network, and the Human Rights Campaign.
“This has been a highly requested feature from users,” Facebook’s manager of public policy communications Andrew Noyes in quoted as saying. “We want to provide options for people to genuinely and authentically reflect their relationships on Facebook.”
